National House on the A6 in Stockport has been sold by Roger Hannah & Co for £2.35m on behalf of owners Abbeymews Properties.
Following a £1 million refurbishment, and originally the headquarters of National Tyres, the 17,000 sq ft office building has been sold to Churchwood Financial who are currently based in adjacent premises. One of the town's landmark buildings, the distinctive three storey corner building on Wellington Road North had fallen into a serious state of disrepair until it was acquired by Abbeymews and a £1 million architect-designed refurbishment put in place. Including fitting a stunning glazed facade and a car park, the building has now been restored as one of Stockport's iconic commercial buildings.
Stockport-born Peter Davies, managing director of Hertfordshire-based Abbeymews Properties, has taken a particular interest in the refurbishment. He said: "It is a building that has interested me since my childhood - I am pleased to have been able to give it a new lease of life and see it once more in commercial occupation."
Stuart Cooper, partner and head of agency at Roger Hannahs, has worked closely with Peter throughout the refurbishment and sale. He commented: "It is a stunning building. I am delighted to have been involved in saving one of the town's landmarks. The sale has gone ahead despite the current economic climate, and is proof that there is life in the commercial property market."
